“But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.” – 1 Peter 3:15
I’m doing an in-depth study with ladies in our military community on 1 Peter from Jen Wilkin and as we went through the verse above it really stuck out to me.
“… always being prepared to make a defense.”
Jen pointed out that the verse doesn’t mean to be defensive about our faith, but rather to know the Bible so well that we are able to give a factual understanding of our beliefs in a conversation.
Digging our roots deep into what scripture says is the best way to cultivate a bold knowledge of the gospel. So, I know we are all making New Year’s resolutions for the coming year and I want to challenge you to read the Bible in it’s entirety!
To help you achieve that goal I asked my friend Ash over at Deer Designs to create a printable for the Humble Motherhood Village and I am so excited to get this in your hands! It is completely free, just sign up for my mailing list and it will drop right into your inbox! You will receive three PDF download files – one contains a bookmark for each month, a poster you can print at home and tape together, or a poster to have printed at Walgreens, Staples or Walmart. My prayer is that it will simplify your life by having the bookmark tucked into your Bible to tell you what to read next and the poster will be a big visual reminder for you to check off daily! I will also be doing encouragement and accountability on my Instagram (@humblemotherhood). Also, use the hashtag #humblemotherhoodBIY so that I can find and connect with you!
Back in October I told Rob I wanted to read the Bible in a year starting in January as a new year’s resolution and his response was “Anything worth doing is worth starting now”. So we did! We’re a couple of months into our journey and I wanted to encourage you to start now, no matter what time of year it is! Print out the bookmark for which ever day of the month it happens to be and just begin.
The ultimate goal of this “challenge” is to encourage you to get into the Word daily! Every day won’t hold some new, startling revelation, and some books will be easier to read through than others. However you will learn so much about our Creator and the beautiful story of the creation, the fall, redemption and restoration of the world. I’m excited to take this journey with you all!
